How do Braces Work:

Braces apply constant pressure to your teeth for an extended period. This process makes your jaw gradually change shape to relieve the pressure exerted by the braces.

We imagine moving the teeth around is impossible since it is connected directly to the Jaw bone. However, beneath your gums is a membrane surrounded by bones that connect your teeth to your jaw. This membrane alters the position of your teeth according to the pressure exerted on them by braces.

Braces make use of a natural process known as “bone remodeling. While wearing braces, you are working on moving your Periodontal Ligament (PDL), which connects and protects your jaw from your teeth.

Because of the constant pressure exerted by braces, the PDL sends signals to osteoclasts, which dissolve part of your jaw bone. Then osteoblasts rebuild your jaw once your teeth are in the proper position.

Metal Braces Treatment Procedure:

  • After your teeth have been cleaned and dried, ceramic, plastic or stainless steel brackets get glued to your teeth.

  • Once the brackets are in place, elastic bands called O-rings or ligatures get wrapped around them.

  • Spacers are placed between your molars by an orthodontist. Orthodontists used Spacers made of rubber bands or metal rings.

  • Everyone does not require a Spacer. Which is used only a week or two at a time

  • Archwires are metal wires that connect the brackets on your teeth. They are the mechanism that applies pressure to your teeth to move them into place.

  • Archwires are available in stainless steel, nickel-titanium, and copper titanium.

  • The buccal tube connects the other parts of your braces at the back of your mouth. Your orthodontist will then tighten and loosen various sections of your braces.

  • Coil springs press against two of your teeth, pushing them apart and creating space.
